Review and Revision of Mine Clearance Standards and Quality Assurance

Role and Responsibilities of the Project Assistant

Project Purpose

1. The purpose of the project is to review and revise mine clearance standards and quality assurance, as part of a wider international review and revision of mine action standards and guidelines. The review and revision process will establish standards for clearance and quality assurance which are appropriate, which can be applied by the mine action community at field level, and which are deemed consistent with the requirements of the Ottawa Convention.

Responsibilities of Project Assistant

2. The project assistant is to assist the project manager in managing all aspects of the review and revision of standards. In his absence, the project assistant is to deputise for the project manager.

3. Responsibilities:

a. On behalf of project manager, and as required, amend the study Terms of Reference (TOR).

b. Assist the project manager prepare a questionnaire which will be issued to all mine action centres, major demining NGOs and commercial contractors, and other organisations who apply existing mine clearance standards.

c. Collate and evaluate the results of the questionnaire.

d. Revise each section of the International Standards for Humanitarian Mine Clearance Operations reflecting the guidance of the project manager and reflecting the views of the Users' Focus Group.

e. Act as principal point of contact between the project manager and the Users' Focus Group.

f. Coordinate the briefings of the Steering Group, and the publication and outreach programme. Provide secretariat support to the Steering Group.
